REÏ at Ghent light festival 2024
Atelier Mestdagh, Stad Gent and Jana Roos bring with Reï a warm glow to those dark months where winter begins to weigh in and the longing for light grows. Reï is an art installation that puts contemporary stained-glass art in a surprising light.

Atelier Mestdagh and Jana Roos fuse their passion into a magical design. Reï creates a moment of wonder that invites viewers to embrace their inner light.
Underneath Ghent's Town Hall, a three-dimensional art installation comes to life where fashion, stained-glass art and light meet. In co-production with the City of Ghent, Atelier Mestdagh is building five monumental stained-glass silhouettes that appear on an 18-meter-long catwalk.
The story of Reï stands for Resilienza, Esperanza and Incandescenza; which refers to resilience, hope and glow. The inspiration for the central story comes from designer Jana Roos. The light festival becomes the canvas for these artists to depict hope.
The powerful message Reï conveys is that there is always light in every human being. But also, that the light in people can sometimes go out. Or that sometimes you need the light of others. This Ghent collaboration actually invites us to keep believing that there are always points of light, in ourselves and others. However small they may be, they are the hope to live on today and tomorrow.
Big thanks to everyone who believed in us, What a team!!!❤️
